Michael Jackson’s Latest Album Has Flopped

One month after being cleared of *** assault charges, Michael Jackson’s latest album, The Essential Michael Jackson, has flopped. In the first week of its release only 8000 copies were sold. At this pace it will take nearly one hundred years to equal his most popular album, Thriller, which has sold 40 million copies. Jackson may have been cleared of all charges, but his fans aren’t buying his product. Is this a portent of things to come? Let’s look at some of the reasons why Michael Jackson may be long “past peak” when it comes to entertaining in the US.

The Michael Jackson Trial got the attention of Americans in the first half of 2005 as the drama was played out nightly on cable news shows. Indeed, it seemed as if CNN and Fox News were battling to be the first one to bring the latest and greatest information to viewers. Finally, in June, the verdict was in: not guilty. The Jackson legal team breathed a sigh of relief and pundits predicted that Jackson would recover over the next year.

So, why has The Essential Michael Jackson flopped? Certainly it isn’t because of the quality of the songs which include Jackson 5 favorites: “Rockin’ Robin”, “Ben”, and “ABC” as well as “The Girl is Mine” recorded with Paul McCartney and and “I Just Can’t Stop Loving You” with Seidah Garrett. True, it does not contain new material, but the song list should be popular enough to grab the attention of Jackson devotees. It hasn’t. More than likely there are other reasons why it is a slow seller including:

1. The Trial. Jackson may have been cleared of all charges, but this is the second time he has been raked through the coals over alleged behavior. Whether you believe him to be guilty or not, all the publicity did nothing but hurt Jackson. Additionally, the trial just got over…why didn’t record producers wait six months or more to release this album? Oh yeah, someone has to pay his legal bills!

2. Changing Tastes. American music tastes change quickly. What was acceptable a few years ago is not necessarily acceptable today. In Europe, Jackson’s music is still widely accepted. Hmmm… me thinks that Germany or France may put up with him.

3. The Weird Factor. Okay, I have to mention it. Jackson just looks weird. Compared to when he was a kid and also a young adult, Jackson looks nothing like he used to look. Is he white? Is he black? Is he male? Is he female? These are some of the questions asked by fans and followers. Weirdness sells…to a point. Track the career of Boy George for comparison purposes.

Personally, I think Jackson was guilty of at least some of the charges and I believe that many fans think the same way. You can be a very good singer, but after awhile fans will tire of all the negative attention and go elsewhere. Witness O.J. Simpon’s life post trial and you can expect Jackson to have a similar fate.

Unless, of course, Michael Jackson moves to Europe.

Top 20 Paul McCartney/Wings Hits

Posted on November 19, 2010
Carl Megill asked:

James Paul McCartney was born in Liverpool, England, in 1942. Coming from a musical family (his father played trumpet and piano in a band in the 1920′s) Paul learned to play guitar at an early age. When he was 15, Paul met and joined John Lennon’s group, The Quarrymen who, in 1960, would become The Beatles. Paul would stay with them, as their bass guitarist and vocalist, until the band’s dissolution in 1970.

He recorded his first solo album in 1970. In 1971, Paul McCartney formed the group, Wings, with his wife Linda Eastman, whom he wed in 1969, ex-Moody Blues guitarist Denny Laine, Denny Seiwell and Henry McCulloch. The group went through several personnel changes, over the years, and finally disbanded in 1981.

On the charts, as Paul McCartney, Paul and Linda McCartney, Wings, Paul McCartney and Wings and in various duets, he made it to the weekly Billboard Top 40 charts 35 times and going to number one a total on nine times. He is credited with writing over fifty Top 10 singles.

Here are Paul McCartney’s twenty biggest hits, according to the weekly Billboard Top 40 charts:

1. Ebony And Ivory – 1982 – teaming up with Stevie Wonder on this one, the single stayed at number one for seven weeks.

2. Say, Say, Say – 1983 – another duet, this time with Michael Jackson and the first of two singles for them to make it to the Top 10.

3. Silly Love Songs – 1976 from the “Wings at the Speed of Sound” album.

4. My Love – 1973 – from the “Red Rose Speedway” album and the first number one single with Wings.

5. Coming Up (Live At Glasgow) – 1980 – recorded in 1979 during their tour of the U.K.

6. With A Little Luck – 1978 – written in Scotland and recorded on the boat Fair Carol, this single was released on St. Patrick’s Day, 1978 and came from the “London Town” album.

7. Band On The Run – 1974 – a cover version of this song was done in 2007 by the Foo Fighters.

8. Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey – 1971 – McCartney’s first number one single after the Beatles break up.

9. Listen To What The Man Said – 1975 – recorded in New Orleans, this number one single came from the “Venus And Mars” album.

10. The Girl Is Mine – 1983 – another duet with Michael Jackson, this one coming from Jackson’s “Thriller” album and not from a McCartney album.

11. Live And Let Die – 1973 – from the James Bond film of the same title.

12. Let ‘Em In – 1976 – the second single from the “Wings At The Speed Of Sound” album, the names “Sister Suzy, Brother John, Martin Luther, Phil and Don, Brother Michael, Auntie Gin, Uncle Ernie and Uncle Ian”, are all friends or relatives of McCartney’s.

13. Junior’s Farm – 1974 – the flip side of this single, “Sally G” also went Top 20 on the weekly charts. The title of this single is in reference to a farm, in Nashville, where Wings recorded the song.

14. Goodnight Tonight – 1979 – this single didn’t appear on any album, until a 1993 reissue of “McCartney II”.

15. Another Day – 1971 – McCartney’s first solo single. This single didn’t appear on any album when it was released.

16. No More Lonely Nights – 1984 – from his “Give My Regards To Broadstreet” film.

17. Spies Like Us – 1986 – from the Chevy Chase/Dan Akroyd film of the same title, this was McCartney’s last Top 10 single.

18. Jet – 1974 – also from the “Band On The Run” album.

19. Maybe I’m Amazed – 1977 – a studio version was recorded on “McCartney”, his first solo album and is dedicated to his wife, Linda, for helping him through the break-up of The Beatles. This live version was recorded during Wings tour of America in 1976.

20. Take It Away – 1982 – from the “Tug Of War” album, the music video of this single features former Beatle, Ringo Starr on drums.

1984 saw Paul McCartney in his own film “Give My Regards To Broadstreet.” Paul won a Lifetime Achievement Grammy in 1990 and, in 1999, he was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame as a solo artist. The Beatles were inducted in 1988. In 1997, Paul was knighted for his services to music.

Paul’s wife, Linda, died, in 1998, of ****** cancer. In 2002, he married former model, Heather Mills and they went through a highly publicized divorce in 2008.

The Guinness Book of World Records has listed Paul McCartney as the most successful musician and composer in pop music history. He still records and performs today to sell out crowds.

Michael Jackson Only Released Six Studio Albums in the 30 Years From 1979 Through 2009

Jackson Weinheimer asked:

Michael Jackson’s first album as an adult solo artist was 1979′s Off the Wall which was released when MJ?was only 19 years old. Up to that point Jackson was more well known as the lead singer of the Jackson Five than as a solo artist although he did have a solo #1 single in 1972 with “Ben.”

Off the Wall established Jackson as a star in his own right (apart from the Jackson Five.) It included two #1 singles “Don’t Stop ’til You Get Enough” &?”Rock with You” and has sold over 7 million copies to date in the United States alone.

His next album, 1982′s Thriller, established Jackson as a true superstar. In fact Jackson was so “big”?during this time that probably the only valid comparisons as far as level of fame can be made with Elvis Presley in the 1950s and The Beatles in the 1960s.

Thriller went on to be the biggest selling studio album in world history and it still holds that title today. Thriller was more than just an album, it was a phenomenon and it was known for more than it’s music. The music videos made for the album changed the medium forever. In particular the groundbreaking “Thriller” video is likely the most famous video ever made and many still consider it to be the greatest achievement in music video history.

At this point Michael Jackson was the biggest pop star in the world. But over the next 27 years (until his untimely tragic death on June 25, 2009)?he released only four studio albums: 1987′s Bad, 1991′s Dangerous, 1995′s HIStory, and 2001′s Invincible.

So was Michael really so “unproductive” during these 27 years or was he holding back a lot of recorded material? There are rumors that the latter is true. In fact, earlier this year it was reported that Jackson has over 100 songs recorded that have yet to be released and that he purposely set aside to only be released following his death.

Is that true? I?don’t know. But if it is it gives MJ?fans something to look forward to. Even though the “King of Pop” is gone, he may still have more music to share with us after all.?

Michael Jackson VS Elvis Presley

Posted on August 20, 2010
Philip Tosini asked:

Who was the best?

To be frank they were both brilliant entertainers in there own right.

Elvis Presley

Elvis was a singer from the 1950′s through to the 60′s and 70′s and died at the age of 42 on 16th August 1977 at his home at Graceland of Cardiac Arrest and not a Heart Attack as was reported. Elvis left one daughter Lisa Marie aged 9. Elvis had suffered from glaucoma and water retention in the past and the effects of years of American Southern cooking and legal use of drugs prescribed by his physician, which ultimately lead to the singers death. Elvis played racquetball in the morning before he died. He returned to his home and played Unchained Melody in his living room, then he proceeded to his bedroom, so Elvis seemed to be quite fit as he was preparing for another concert tour.

Michael Jackson

Michael was a singer from the 1960′s, 70′s, 80′s, 90′s through to 2009 when he died at the age of 50 on 25th June 2009 at his home at Holmby Hills in Los Angeles, he also died of reported cardiac arrest. Michael left 3 children Prince Michael, 10; Paris Katherine, 9; and Prince Michael II, aka “Blanket,” 5. Michael suffered for years from a skin disorder vitiligo, a rare disease that discolors the face and body, plus he had many cosmetic surgery operations at least 20, to change his face as he was unhappy with his features especially his nose, probably as a result from physical and mental abuse in his childhood. Jackson probably died as a result of all the stress and anguish of the years of accusations and resulting court cases over the last 10-15 years. Michael was apparently fighting fit two days before his death, as he was preparing to play a 50 date concert at the O2 Arena in London, England. His body most likely couldn’t take the strain of the rehearsals.

Difference between Cardiac Arrest and Heart Attack

A heart attack is when the heart becomes irregular and there is circulation problems. A cardiac arrest is when the heart stops beating and happens without warning. Though they are both deadly, a cardiac arrest needs treatment within minutes if not seconds, where as a heart attack can come on more slowly, as long as the patient is made comfortable they can survive long enough for help to arrive, but I must STRESS this is not always the case as every situation is different.

Summary

The difference between the two singers, you can’t really judge as Elvis Presley started it all,he was the original music rebel, as John Lennon said ‘If it wasn’t for Elvis Presley, there would be no Beatles” he was known as the King of Rock’n’ Roll, a title given to him by his fans.

Michael Jackson is what started the video era, even today’s music videos do NOT have a patch on any of his videos, even the ones from the 1970′s. The King of Pop is the self-proclaimed title MJ gave himself.

All in all they both were geniuses in there own genre giving fans and the World music they loved, movements and dances that are and still original, which nobody can imitate, even though they spawned thousands of imitators, tribute acts, impersonators (imps) or whatever you want to call them. There will NEVER be another Elvis Presley or Michael Jackson.
